Growing Herbs Indoors Print E-mail
Even if you don't have the outdoor room to have a big garden, or you live in an apartment, you can still have a great little indoor garden. Grow herbs that you can use in a variety of recipes.  It's not hard to do, and just the taste and smell of your herb garden will be a delight.  Several herbs can be grown in small containers on a window in a sunny area. You can grow rosemary, parsley, sage, coriander, basil, cilantro, mint, and a host of other herbs, including lavender, chamomile, and others.  Start with a good healthy seedling that you can buy at a garden center.  Any container that you have around the house will do. Get some potting soil and mix in a small amount of sand and lime.  Make sure the container has drainage holes in the bottom, and add a small amount of gravel at the bottom. Plant your seedling and place in a sunny window, preferably with a southern exposure.  If you find that you don't have enough light, fluorescent lighting can be used.  Water once every week.  Let the plants dry out before you water again. Feed occasionally.  You are growing the herbs to eat, so be sure to cut the leaves often enough to encourage new growth.
