| There is nothing more breathtaking and beautiful than a rose. There are hundreds of varieties to choose from, and each color has a special meaning. Unfortunately, roses have earned the reputation of being hard to grow and hard to care for, and this simply isn't true. Certain types of roses may need a little more maintenance than others, but on the whole, as long as you know a few basic things about gardening, you can have beautiful rose bushes. Roses need plenty of sunshine, so be sure you plant in an area where the sun is going to be adequate. They love rich, loose soil. Nutrients are essential, and also a lot of 'food'. Fertilize often and regularly. Compost or manure is essential for growing strong, hardy plants with beautiful blooms. Roses love lots of water, but not to the point of drowning them! A soaker hose works well for this. Make sure you use mulch around the base of the plant to keep the weeds down. Prune the bushes often, and try to do it on a regular basis. Do these few, simple things and you will be rewarded year after year with colorful, fragrant roses! Your garden will bloom from early June right up until the first frost. |
